Random Thoughts I wanted you to hear

Posted on Friday 7 July 2006

Hi!

It's me again (the one who writes about ridiculous, rather pathetic things compared to my sermon-typing husband who challenges and encourages with deep meaningful things).  But see, that's why God put us together, so we can create a balanced blog!

Anyway, I haven't blogged in a while and it seems overwhelming, all the things I need to share with you.  (Ask Randy: leave me alone for 20 minutes and I will give whoever I see next such a huge earful of what happened during that time, that one would think I had been on a 3 month journey to a distant and exciting place.)

So I shall try to list some things, in the order that they come to me:

* The reason that I need to nap when I'm pregnant is only partially because I'm tired and my body is doing many big important things inside of itself.  The primary reason, I have discovered, is for the sake of our food budget.  If I am awake, I am eating.  Plain and simple.  I wake, therefore I hunger.  So I regularly force myself to sleep so that I will not feel the hunger so that for a few precious moments, valuable and edible resources are being preserved inside the fridge and cabinets.

*Do not EVER, under ANY circumstance, take a child under the age of about 5 on an overnight camping trip in a tent.  Go for the whole day, and leave as late as you want, but DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT enter the tent thinking that the small adorable child who is sleeping so nicely in his brand new little sleeping bag will stay that way once you decide to try to sleep too.  Simply pick up sleeping child, buckle into car seat and GO HOME!  Do not pass go (you may visit the bathroom though) do not collect $200 (do, however, collect the "prostate examiner" marshmallow roasting stick that your father kindly let you borrow), Go directly to your own bed and get some stinking sleep!!!

*Especially if you have to share this tent with your sister, brother-in-law, and niece (who happens to sleep very nicely in a tent).

*A 2 year old who has missed his nap is capable of falling asleep on a moving paddle boat, sitting up, wearing a life jacket.

*Sometimes "fireworks" that are sold at fine establishments such as Aldi, though fun to watch, actually tend to resemble large wads of carbon feces growing at an alarming rate rather than something containing flames, sparks, or booms.  But hey, that's patriotic enough, right?

*There will inevitably have to be a gap in the amount/type of photos you take of a child during his/her potty-training phase because either a) child is sitting on the potty with so many toys that face is not visible b) things other than face ARE visible or c) mother has given up and allowed child to play with no pants on whatsoever and walks around looking/feeling for wet spots (note to landlord: mother DOES wipe said spots up carefully when she finds them)

*I fear that at this point the gap might be many years long.  He's doing well enough and all, but he's reached a plateau in his training and he seems quite content staying there for a very long time!  He doesn't MIND not having pants on (what about rug burn??).  I fear that he actually might LIKE it and PREFER it!  I can just imagine the calls I'll get from the kindegarten teacher…

*Indoor plumbing is REALLY nice.

My head is all empty now, thanks for listening!

Thank you very much for your camping tips. I no longer feel guilty for not allowing our boys to have a “camping experience” yet. I’m glad you’re back home, even if you are tired & hungry all the time.

I am also a big fan of the toilet, myself. ;-)
