The DMV

Posted on Wednesday 14 June 2006

Good morning loyal readers (Randy at least?)

I'm writing to tell you that I plan to go to the DMV this morning to renew my license photo.  I'm actually rather nervous about this whole thing because my experience 4 years ago was, as tends to be the case when I try to do something that normal people do with no trouble, rather embarassing.  So I'm hoping for a better report this time.  Although, last time I was with my husband (who was in no way responsible for the embarassing event, and actually rather enjoyed watching it I think) and this time I will be with my 2 year old, so we shall see.

If you must know, what happened last time is that I didn't realize that when they call you up to the counter to take your photo (after waiting for like 3 months with the rest of humanity in the special chairs) that you're just supposed to stand right there and smile at the nice camera behind the counter.  For some reason I thought that it was a more complicated process, involving actually going behind the counter and sitting in a special photo chair and stuff like that (to my defense, the last time I had had this done it did involve some of this stuff!) And so, there I was, attempting to somehow get behind the counter while the poor person who just wanted to keep the line moving had to tell me to stay put.  Meanwhile, Randy is no doubt watching in wide-eyed astonishment at this woman he married, wondering if he can/will afford to bail me out when I get arrested for trying to bust into the workings of the DMV photo shoot.  Uuugghh.

So I'm hoping that maybe I can just sort of go there today and blend in with all the other people and get done with it all, and breathe a big sigh of relief, knowing I'm safe until 2010.

But Micah is still sleeping (which at 7:45 is VERY rare) and so my thoughts of getting there early to beat the crowds might be all in vain.  Great, all the more people to watch me as I do something outlandishly humiliating!

It was rather amusing! “Excuse me ma’am- what are you doing? You can’t come back here!”
