Shari tries to blog!

Posted on Friday 2 June 2006

Hi.

I'm pretty nervous.  My family (actually my in-laws) keep telling me I should blog, so I guess I'll give it a try.  Who knows?  Maybe I'll like it.  Or maybe my in-laws will quickly change their minds and encourage me to try stamp collecting or something a bit more private.

And who, besides these in-laws will even READ this anyway?  How does that work?  See, I'm really not very techno minded at all.  I mean I feel all special when I check email twice in the same week.

So they say it's just like a journal thing.  That I should just talk about stuff.  I'm pretty good at talking I suppose.  But nothing really earth-shattering tends to happen to me, but I still feel as though every day is a "big day" for me.

Take today for example.  Micah, who will be 2 on Sunday, went poo poo in the potty two times so far.  And we went to the zoo this morning with Tessa and her kids and James and Tina and their kids.  Randy had to work Cry so he couldn't join us.  It was fun, but I got yelled at by some construction people for driving too fast through their cones on the way there.  And I was the first car in our 3 car caravan, so I was hoping that somehow none of the other drivers would hear me being scolded by the bright yellow people.  But of course, as soon as we pull into the zoo, James jumps out of his van and says, "Shari, you NEVER get yelled at!!"  hmph.  So then on the way home, I drove like 5 mph through that work site and this time the guy actually had to motion for me to hurry up.  Hah!  showed him!

What else should I say?  There's this tree outside our door that drops these evil little round spiky green things every spring.  And there are SO MANY of them now that it's kind of like Hitchcock's "Birds" or something.  But see, that's not exciting is it?  Why did I tell you that?

Come back!  I'll try to do better.  Remember this is my first time.

Can I ask for advice on my blog?  Because we have this gorgeous cat who is a beautiful silvery gray and he's the softest cat ever, but he has this one teensy weensy flaw: he pees on stuff in our basement.  A lot.  And it smells really bad.  And sometimes he picks things to pee on that aren't, in a technical sense, ours.  So it can prove to be rather embarassing.  But my husband and I are big softies when it comes to animals and so we can't just get rid of him.  I saw an ad in a magazine for this "Cat Attract" cat litter that is supposed to lure your cat to the litter box.  Maybe I'll try that (for that cat, not for me – although now I'm wondering if they have something like this for potty training humans…) but I'm sure it's really expensive and we have two litter boxes cuz we have two cats.  (I'll save the other cat for another entry as he is on the FBI's most wanted list.)  Anyway, but I don't know if this litter will work or what.  So if you could offer some help, that would be great.

I hope to learn enough about my computer to soon be able to put  photos on here for you to look at (not of the cat pee though, sorry).  I just finally started to feel brave enough to use my digital camera, but I have yet to personally download the pictures from it onto the computer (thank goodness my very techno-minded husband bought me a huge memory card for it!)

Well there is one more thing I have to tell you in this first entry, but the problem is my husband is actually sitting right here reading as I type (Hi Randy!) so I'm afraid he will get annoyed and make me delete it.  But I've been dying to tell you that I'm married to a real live (Randy just said, "Oh good grief!") rocket scientist!  He never admits it, he gets all bashful and says "research scientist."  But come on!  How cool is it to actually be the epitome of smartness?!  He doesn't have a pocket protector or anything like that.  He's really just a regular guy who didn't want to finish grad school because he didn't want to have to get a "real job."  But then when he found out about the company that he now works for, he was very excited and actually asked them to hire him and worked really hard to finish grad school!  The only bummer is that he has to commute 1 1/2 hours each way to get there.  But he gets to work from home 1 day a week (which is why he's sitting here watching me blog.  I mean he already did his 8 hours, it's not like he just stays home and makes people THINK he's working.)  So anyway, I would really like to find a bumper sticker for my car that says, "Have you hugged your rocket scientist today?"  He hasn't said much in the past few minutes and when I just turned around for a status check, he had this you'd-better-be-thankful-I'm-laid-back kind of look on his face, with his eyes all narrowed and rolly.  Embarassed  He actually plans to blog too, so maybe soon you can read that.  He's really quite good at writing.  His dream is to be a writer someday, but for now rocket science pays the bills, so maybe someday.  He has big eyes.  He gave them to our son, so now they share them.  Each uses one.

I just tried to delete those last 3 sentences, but he used his big knowledge and put them back in again.  I've been trumped.

Well, that's all for now.  We will have to see how regularly I update this.  I don't want to be imprisoned for boring people or anything.

Talk to you later!
